If you have encountered a rough patch in life, we encourage you to seek help through your company's employee assistance plan, by calling Info Social at 811 or your local CLSC or one of the many excellent professional counsellors serving the West Island. You do not have to face this alone.

Les Petits frères / Little Brothers West Island
For people aged 75+ who are alone, with no family or significant social network. Little Brothers welcomes and provides support by creating a caring, committed extended family around them dedicated to alleviating their isolation and staying by their side throughout their remaining years.

ABOVAS 514 694-3838 Volunteers offer transportation and accompaniment to medical appointments. Patients using wheelchairs must be able to transfer themselves in and out of the vehicle/chair.
Non-emergency fire department number: 514 872-3775 will send a team when possible if someone has fallen. If, however, you feel the person may be injured, call 911.
Respite care: many long term care facilities offer short term respite care at reduced rates. Baluchon Alzheimers at 514 762-2667 may be able to assist for caregiver respite arrangements.

Dropincompanions.com is another excellent resource, carefully matching seniors with paid carers, to reduce loneliness and boost autonomy. They even offer travel companions and pet sitters. As with any service, we recommend that you trust your judgement and check references.
